Why donate to Greenlaw Town Hall Sustainability Fund?

The ultimate aim for Friends of Greenlaw, a local Amenity Society which is proposing the Community / Commercial option, is to have the Greenlaw Town Hall fully restored. This is now possible thanks to the high level of interest being generated through its appearance in the BBC Restoration series. By transforming the building, this will also transform the village.

People have always been fascinated by the building. Partly from the fact that such a grand class A-listed building seems so out-of-place in such a small community, (which shows what can be achieved if you put your mind and energies into it), but also that it is steeped in history and social significance for the people of Greenlaw and the wider community.

How would the people of Greenlaw feel if the building were to be restored?

It would rank as being one of the most satisfying and life-enhancing changes in their lives. To bring this amount of benefit to an entire community can only make you feel good inside.

The Will-making process.

Making a Will and keeping it up to date is very important - it fulfills your wishes. The following process describes how to make sure your Will reflects your wishes.
1. Assess your personal estate.
Create a list of all your most significant possessions. eg your house, car, savings and insurance, and any other items of value.
2. Decide how to share out your estate.
You have the choice of sharing your estate between any number of people - your spouse, family or friends. Its also possible to leave a legacy to a charity, such as Greenlaw Town Hall Sustainability Fund, after your family and friends have all been properly provided for.
3. Decide which types of gift to leave.
It is possible to leave any kind of gift eg a part of your estate, a sum of money or specific items. Your solicitor can advise you on the benefits of these different types of legacy.
4. Choose some executors.
You can now select up to four people who are both able and willing to carry out the wishes within your Will. You have a choice of your solicitor, your bank or willing relatives or friends.
5. Appoint a solicitor to make your Will.
It's very important to involve a solicitor to draw it up for you. If the legal formalities are not precisely followed, your Will may be declared invalid.
6. Make sure your Will is correctly drawn up.
7.When you have completed your Will, ensure that it is executed and witnessed properly. Your solicitor will advise you about this.
8. Always keep your Will up to date.
Updating your Will can be done at any time and should reflect changes in your circumstances - eg selling of your house, or the death of friends or loved ones. Consult your solicitor to get the best advice on how to change your Will. This can be done either by re-writing it or by adding a codicil.
